Lake Management

Lake Management Plan

The lake management team secured a grant from the DNR for $3000 in 2008.  Thankyou to the town of Salem for assisting in the application process.  That money, combined with $1000 from the association have gone towards preparation of a multi-year lake management plan which will establish the objectives, priorities and strategies for keeping Lake Shangri-La/Benet health.  The result will be an executable plan that will help ensure our success in the future.

Weed Management

WEED MANAGEMENT TEAM- Meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7pm at the Community Center on 121st Street.  The purpose of the TEAM is to plan ongoing weed handling strategy as well as to begin developing a multi-year lake management plan.  Spraying this year was aimed primarily at curly leaf but also controlled any milfoil.  Lake water testing will continue throughout the summer.  Questions call Joe 262-862-1439

Last years' results were dramatic and successful.  The earlier spraying date, and targeting of Eurasian Milfoil beds specifically, was an important strategic shift in that we now view the lake as a whole. The DNR is in complete agreement with this approach.   2009 weed spraying targeted curly leaf in May and Milfoil in early June.  Most areas were treated however signs were not placed on every pier.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will not allow weed control in areas with lily pads or coon tail. Weed control will consist of granule and liquid application in areas of heavy Eurasian Milfoil http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/invasives/fact/milfoil.htm. All lakefront homeowners are encouraged to hand rake areas within 30 feet of piers and remove weeds from the water. Please volunteer to serve on our Weed Management Team.
